Food is a Right, Not a Privilege.

Vote for a Food Secure Future

Federal Election Day: April 28, 2025

Nearly one in four people in Canada face challenges putting food on the table. That means 8.7 million people worry about running out of food, must compromise on the quality and quantity of their groceries, or even go without meals. Rising costs for essentials like food and housing, combined with wages and incomes that haven’t kept pace, have made access to nutritious food a growing concern for many families.

Food insecurity isn’t just about hunger—it’s a serious health issue. It’s linked to higher rates of mental health challenges, chronic diseases, and increased healthcare costs (Public Health Agency of Canada).

Ensuring everyone has reliable access to nutritious food isn’t just the right thing to do—it’s essential for the well-being of individuals, families, and communities.

Leading the Way to

Food Security

In the months ahead we’re encouraging our public representatives to champion solutions that ensure everyone has access to nutritious food:

Cutting Food Insecurity in Half by 2030

Setting and achieving a national food security target.

Upholding Indigenous and Black Food Sovereignty

Partnering to restore and strengthen food systems, ensuring access to traditional foods and upholding hunting, fishing, and gathering rights while addressing barriers to food autonomy.

Ensuring Everyone Can Afford the Basics

Expanding income supports for workers and people on fixed incomes to align with the cost of living.

Good Food is Just the Beginning

We believe in a future where no one should have to choose between paying rent or buying groceries. Families shouldn’t have to skip meals or rely on less nutritious options simply because healthy food is out of reach. Together, we can build a Canada where everyone—no matter their background or income—has access to the nutritious food they need to thrive.

Your vote on April 28, 2025, is a powerful way to help make this vision a reality. Here’s how to be ready to make your voice heard:

This Is What Change Looks Like

Change starts with action and this is our opportunity to take it.

We have a chance to work together—government, businesses, and communities—to build a future where everyone can afford to eat. A future where Indigenous communities have the freedom to harvest, hunt, and fish according to their traditions, where workers earn fair wages, and where policies ensure no one is left behind.

Ensuring everyone has reliable access to nutritious food isn’t just the right thing to do. It’s essential for the well-being of individuals, families, and communities.

At The Alex Community Food Centre, we’re taking action to combat food insecurity and its far-reaching effects. Through the support of our community partners, volunteers, and donors, we’re making a real difference. Together, we are creating lasting change. We invite you to be a part of it.
